Abstract

The present academic article analyzed the impact that causes of family uprooting on field operational workers at Ingeniería y Servicios S.A.S. company, those who are exposed to working conditions that involve prolonged stays in their workplace, that is away from their emotional environment. The purpose was to understand how this separation from family ties influences in the emotional health, or affects job performance, and perception of risk. A mixed-method approach was applied, using semi-structured interviews and the UCLA Loneliness Scale adapted method was also used, to the operational context, with a closed sample of eight workers. The results show high and very high levels of uprooting in the 100% of the participants, with symptoms of isolation, emotional exhaustion, and weakening of family ties. Direct effects were observed on concentration, motivation, and adherence that have the company's safety protocols. The interviews reveal the absence of institutional policies for emotional support, as well as the need to redesign shifts and establish psychosocial support mechanisms when workdays are extended due to operational issues. It is concluded that uprootedness constitutes a critical psychosocial risk that should be included in the occupational risk prevention matrix. This academic article provides a comprehensive understanding of the phenomenon, proposing the incorporation of organizational strategies aimed at the emotional well-being of staff. Recognizing the role of emotional bonds in occupational safety is essential to improving the quality of the work environment and reducing the likelihood of accidents resulting from emotional exhaustion and emotional disconnection.
