Abstract

This research project examines the influence that safe chemical handling practices exert on the prevention of occupational accidents and work related illnesses within companies dedicated to aerial fumigation. The study employs a mixed methodology with a predominantly quantitative orientation. Systematic observations were carried out inside operational facilities, enabling the identification and classification of the chemical products routinely managed during aerial spraying activities. Among substances detected were multiple categories of fungicides, insecticides, and other agricultural inputs frequently used in crop protection. Prolonged exposure to agrochemicals can produce harmful effects on workers’ health. Cases of chemical intoxication range from mild, reversible symptoms to severe, life threatening conditions that may ultimately result in fatal outcomes. The principal routes through which these substances enter the human body during aerial fumigation include ingestion, inhalation, and dermal penetration, each posing distinct risks depending on the level and duration of contact. To address these challenges, a protocol for the safe and sustainable management of agrochemicals was developed. This protocol outlines specific procedures, preventive measures, and operational guidelines intended to regulate every stage of chemical handling. Its main objective is to encourage a transition from current practices toward safer, more responsible, environmentally conscious methods. By standardizing tasks and clarifying responsibilities, the protocol seeks to reduce occupational risks, minimize exposure, and prevent illnesses associated with chemical use. Ultimately, its implementation aims to foster positive behavioral change among workers, promoting safer habits and reinforcing a culture of health, protection, and overall wellbeing in the workplace for all employees involved daily.
