Operational safety in fire departments is essential to ensure the protection of personnel in high-risk situations. This study aimed to evaluate the implementation of the NFPA 1500 standard in the Riobamba Fire Department, identifying gaps in its application and proposing strategies for its improvement. To achieve this, a systematic review of scientific literature published between 2019 and 2024 was conducted using reputable academic databases. Case studies from both national and international contexts were analyzed to compare the effectiveness of NFPA 1500 in different settings. Additionally, statistical data on accidents, operational training, and equipment availability in Ecuadorian fire departments were considered. The findings revealed deficiencies in personal protective equipment, a lack of continuous training programs, and limitations in adopting new technologies. In countries where NFPA 1500 is strictly implemented, incident rates have decreased by more than 30%, whereas in Ecuador, the lack of compliance with these standards remains a significant risk factor. It is concluded that strengthening personnel training, improving infrastructure, and ensuring the availability of adequate equipment are essential measures. The adoption of emerging technologies and the development of strategic partnerships with international organizations can significantly enhance operational safety within the Riobamba Fire Department.
