Abstract

This article analyzes the ergonomic conditions and their influence on the physical performance of the operational personnel of the Espíndola Fire Department, considering the complexity of their duties in high-risk contexts. Through a qualitative methodology based on documentary review and critical analysis of recent literature, the main factors affecting firefighters’ health and performance are examined, highlighting the interaction between the use of personal protective equipment, demanding physical workloads, and the incidence of musculoskeletal injuries. The results show that ergonomics is a fundamental axis to ensure both safety and operational efficiency of administrative and operational staff. However, it is evident that this aspect does not occupy a priority place in institutional management, being relegated in the face of the urgency of attending emergencies to safeguard lives at risk. Likewise, limitations are identified regarding the availability of resources, the lack of inclusive equipment adapted to female morphology, and the absence of ergonomic prevention programs. The analysis also emphasizes the need to understand ergonomics as an integral phenomenon that articulates physical, psychosocial, organizational, and technological factors. It highlights the importance of strengthening training programs, implementing task rotation protocols, and promoting applied research in emerging technologies that help reduce physical workload. This study provides scientific foundations to promote policies and intervention strategies that optimize the health, safety, and performance of firefighters in the Espíndola Fire Department.
