The Municipal Fire Department of the Pasaje Canton is a public institution focused on protection, prevention, rescue, and firefighting. Its purpose is to safeguard the safety of people and their property. To this end, it has both administrative and operational firefighting personnel, the latter being divided into two groups: remunerated firefighters and non-remunerated (volunteer) firefighters. The occupational health and safety system currently in place within the institution complies with most of the measures stipulated by Ecuadorian laws. However, it does not meet all the necessary measures required for firefighting personnel, considering that the activities they perform are highly risky and expose them to situations that can impact their health in the short, medium, or long term. This highlights the need to update the occupational health and safety system of the institution by implementing new techniques that develop more efficient measures to ensure adequate protection and care that aligns with the current reality faced by the personnel. The fundamental goal is to protect each member of the institution and, in doing so, guarantee that they can effectively perform their duties. This also ensures the protection of the general public, considering that an improved system will enhance their effectiveness, thereby improving the systematic outcomes of their activities.
