Abstract

The article analyzed the impact of active breaks on the professional development of Dundee Precious Metals Ecuador employees, using an action research approach. These breaks promote employee participation in identifying problems and implementing practical solutions. The study population included both operational staff, exposed to physical exhaustion, and administrative staff, affected by sedentary lifestyles and mental fatigue. Recurrent symptoms of fatigue, decreased performance, and low work morale were detected. Based on this reality, short, structured active breaks were designed and implemented, tailored to the roles of each group. Activities included stretching, conscious breathing, and joint movements, and were strategically integrated into the workday.

The results showed significant improvements: reduced physical discomfort, increased concentration, greater motivation, and a better work environment. In addition, skills such as time management, communication, and teamwork were strengthened. Using an action research approach, continuous feedback loops were established, allowing breaks to be adapted and optimized according to the actual needs of staff. This process strengthens the culture of self-care and the organizational commitment to well-being. The final contribution of this work is that active breaks not only benefit individual health but also strengthen the organizational culture by promoting sustainable self-care practices. These programs, as part of occupational health and safety policies, adapted to the characteristics of each work area, will reduce musculoskeletal discomfort and increase cohesion among work teams. When implemented in a participatory and reflective manner, they not only improve individual performance but also contribute to building a healthier and more sustainable corporate culture.
