Abstract

This research conducts a study on the relationship between workplace incivility, productivity, and occupational well-being in organizational settings. The methodology employed is biographical documentary research, with a detailed analysis of the main categories to understand the definitions of workplace incivility and how it differs from other forms of abuse and psychosocial risks. This study explores key characteristics of incivility, including its subtlety, ambiguity, frequency, and cumulative impact, as well as the differences between incivility and bullying. Workplace incivility is a subtle yet harmful form of antisocial behavior within the organizational environment. It manifests through disrespectful, ambiguous, and low-intensity actions that, although not constituting outright violence, negatively affect workers' well-being, morale, and productivity. This study presents a practical case in a family-owned textile company where incivility originates from management and propagates in a downward spiral that impacts the entire organizational structure. This dynamic demonstrates how poorly managed hierarchical power, combined with the absence of clear policies, can foster toxic work environments. Additionally, the analysis considers personal and organizational factors that contribute to the proliferation of incivility, such as high competitiveness, lack of social skills, and negative affectivity, as well as the need to implement preventive strategies, including zero-tolerance policies. Finally, it is concluded that, workplace incivility can serve as a catalyst for more serious behaviors if not addressed promptly, thereby affecting employees' mental health and organizational efficiency.
