Abstract

An analysis of the causes of workplace accidents at height within the construction sector reveals a critical situation that compromises both staff safety and the operational efficiency of projects. The most significant factors affecting workers include a lack of adequate training, improper use or absence of personal protective equipment (PPE), a lack of clear safety protocols, and poor supervision in risk areas. In many work environments, workers do not receive specialized technical training on the safe handling of tools, scaffolding, or fall protection systems, which significantly increases the likelihood of accidents. Added to this are conditions such as adverse weather conditions, pressure to meet strict deadlines, and the poor condition or lack of maintenance of temporary structures such as ladders or platforms. Furthermore, an organizational culture has been identified that, in some cases, downplays prevention and prioritizes productivity over worker safety. Given this situation, it is clear that a comprehensive prevention strategy is required, including ongoing and specialized staff training, strict compliance with current safety regulations, the incorporation of modern technologies for working at heights, and the strengthening of an organizational culture focused on prevention at all levels. Only through a multidisciplinary and committed approach will it be possible to significantly reduce the occurrence of accidents and sustainably improve working conditions in the construction sector.
