Through a thorough literature review, the primary consequences of work-related stress on emergency response personnel are discussed. It is noted that operational staff work rotating shifts of up to 48 hours, which is strongly associated with a higher risk of developing depression and anxiety, directly affecting their mental and physical health. A qualitative research methodology was applied, based on the analysis of data collected from the Fire Department of Sucua Canton, to determine effective strategies to reduce work-related stress. The findings indicate that work-related stress not only affects individuals but also threatens the proper functioning and overall effectiveness of the entire organization. Among the conclusions, it is emphasized that the lack of strategies to reduce work-related stress can worsen psychological and physical impacts. Therefore, there is an urgent need to implement mental health and occupational wellness policies within the fire department.
