Abstract

This article examines the limitations in implementing physical security strategies at the Mariann Field of Andes Petroleum, located in a remote area of Block 62 in Ecuador. The study identifies several factors hindering protection measures and proposes improvements to enhance operational security. The methodology involves a documentary and bibliographic review, including previous studies, national and international regulations, and recognized management models. The results highlight various internal and external challenges affecting security strategies. Internally, outdated infrastructure, insufficient financial resources, and a lack of continuous staff training limit effectiveness. Externally, adverse weather conditions, geographic isolation, and social conflicts with local communities pose significant risks. Despite adherence to international standards such as ISO 45001 and ISO 14001, economic constraints and operational deficiencies hinder full application, reducing the effectiveness of the implemented measures. To address these challenges, the study suggests technological upgrades, enhanced emergency protocols, comprehensive training programs, and increased community involvement. Additionally, it recommends periodic audits, strict compliance with international regulations, and the use of real-time monitoring technologies to improve security management. Strengthening collaboration with stakeholders and optimizing resource allocation are also critical for mitigating security risks and fostering continuous improvement. A structured, comprehensive, and sustainable approach is essential to overcoming these limitations. By integrating technological, operational, and social strategies, security measures can be reinforced, ensuring safer, more efficient, and sustainable operations. The study emphasizes the importance of adapting strategies to evolving risks and challenges. Only through coordinated efforts and long-term planning can the effectiveness of security measures be maximized and sustainably sustained.
