Abstract

Cutting tools constitute the foundation of emergency rescue operations in fire departments. However, improper utilization of these tools creates risk that trigger workplace accidents among operational firefighters, diminishing their operational capacity and generating human and economic costs. Addressing this issue, this academic article proposes a comprehensive safety protocol for the Fire Department of Canton El Tambo. It employs a mixed methodology combining qualitative and quantitative approaches alongside literature analysis to achieve a more holistic understanding of the phenomenon. This approach integrates statistical analyses with objective interpretations while incorporating the PDCA cycle (Plan-Do-Check-Act) through a participatory lens, ensuring contextual relevance and acceptance among the operational personnel of the Canton El Tambo Fire Department. The implementation results have revolutionized safety practices within our Fire Department, evidenced by a remarkable 78% reduction in tool-related injuries. Beyond favorable statistics, we've witnessed a profound cultural transformation throughout the organization. Firefighters have integrated safer practices into their daily routines, including proper equipment maintenance protocols, standardized operational procedures, and consistent use of adequate personal protective equipment. Emergency interventions now proceed with enhanced precision and effectiveness, particularly during critical scenarios where time is of the essence. This protocol represents an invaluable investment in protecting those who risk their lives daily in service to the community. By safeguarding our firefighters' wellbeing, we strengthen the entire emergency response chain. We strongly recommend the continued implementation of this protocol alongside periodic updates delivered through practical training sessions for all personnel, ensuring sustained safety improvements and institutional knowledge retention throughout the department.
