Abstract

Sustainability, as a social and economic process, is fundamental to maintaining ecosystem balance on the planet. The objective of this essay was to establish the established UN guidelines for sustainable development and economic growth, according to the Brundtland Report (BR). To this end, a qualitative bibliographic study was conducted, extracting several articles from various repositories (Scielo, WoS, Latindex, among others) related to the topic under discussion. The author compares his opinions with the cited literature. It is concluded that the implementation of a true scenario for social and economic sustainability deserves greater attention from citizens and governments of all nations, in order to achieve substantial, lasting progress without compromising the resources that nature offers us.
